Ouachita Softball Battles to a Series Split with East Central

ADA, Okla. – On Saturday afternoon the Ouachita and East Central softball teams split games three and four of the weekend series, Ouachita took game one 10-9 and East Central won the night cap 9-1 in five innings.

Game One: Ouachita 10, East Central 9

Sarah Johnson (Mount Vernon, Texas) started the scoring for Ouachita in the top of the first inning with an RBI single to left centerfield. East Central took the lead back in the bottom of the first with a pair of runs to a take a 2-1 lead.

The Ouachita offense exploded in the top of the third inning. Natalie Jackson hit an RBI single up the middle to tie the game a two. Tobi Finley came through with one of the biggest hits of the afternoon. The freshman outfielder crushed a three-run double to right centerfield to give Ouachita a 5-2 advantage.

The lead was short lived however for Ouachita. East Central scored four runs in the bottom of the third to take back the lead at 6-5.

The game was tied at 7 in the top of the sixth inning. Jackson and Finley came through with RBI's again for the Tigers to put them up by two runs with only one inning remaining. East Central tied the game in the bottom half of the inning.

The game went into extra innings tied at 9. Finley hit a one out triple to put Ouachita in prime position to take the lead. Samantha Ortiz then hit an RBI single to right center field to give Ouachita the 10-9 win.

Finley was the top hitter in game one as she went 4-for-4 at the plate with 4-RBI's. Marissa Butler picked up her sixth win of the season in the circle.

Game Two: Ouachita 1, East Central 9

Alissa Taylor hit a lead-off homerun in the bottom of the first inning to give East Central the first run of the game.

After the solo shot, Sarah Chamberlain (Shreveport, La.) settled in and a pitchers dual began to ensue.

With two-outs in the top of the fourth inning, Paige Purifoy (Farmington, Ark.) hit a double down the right field line to score Finley. The double tied the game at 1 heading into the bottom half of the inning.

East Central broke the game open though in the bottom of the fourth with a four-run inning. The Tigers of East Central had another four-run inning in the bottom of the fifth, to come away with the walk-off run rule victory over Ouachita.

Chamberlain was hit with her sixth loss of the season. While Purifoy was the offensive player of the game.

For the first time in almost two months, the Ouachtia Tigers softball team will be playing at home. The four game series against Southeastern Oklahoma State will begin on Friday at 4 p.m.
