Several grass fires south of Alva

Area firefighters tackled numerous grass fires Thursday afternoon in Woods County. This one was between Alva and Hopeton on U.S. Highway 281. Other fires were in that area and east along Craig Road to near Dacoma. One home was threatened and firefighters were trying to keep the fire from a barn in another spot. U.S. Highway 281 was closed for a time. Dacoma, Alva, Capron and possibly other fire departments were involved. Woods County sent dozers with blades to assist.
