Arkansas Tech drops dual to No. 2 West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla. – No. 42 Arkansas Tech women's tennis dropped a non-conference dual to No. 2 West Florida on Thursday, falling 8-1 in Pensacola, Fla.


Arkansas Tech returns to Great American Conference play on Wednesday, March 28, as the Golden Suns travel to Arkadelphia for a 2 p.m. dual against Ouachita.


The Golden Suns (7-3) fell behind 2-0 after the first two doubles matches, but Annabel Rowlands and Teresa Sanchez gave Tech its first point with an 8-3 victory in the No. 2 doubles match.

The doubles win for Rowlands and Sanchez is their second of the spring, and Arkansas Tech is 7-3 this season at the No. 2 doubles position.

West Florida (16-0), ranked second in the latest Oracle/ITA Division II Women's Rankings, took control of the dual by winning all six singles matches.

The loss is just the third of the spring for the Suns, with all three coming against teams ranked in the top 35, including two in the top 10.

(No. 4 Singles) – Heather Mixon (UWF) def. Kami Ward (Tech) 7-5; 6-2

(No. 5 Singles) – Samantha Echevarria (UWF) def. Annabel Rowlands (Tech) 6-2; 6-0
