SWOSU Baseball Splits Saturday's Slate with HSU

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball split with Henderson State on Saturday in the final day of the series. After run-ruling the Reddies 19-9 (7 Inn.) in the day's first game, the Dawgs went quiet in the rubber match after falling 9-4.

Despite the Saturday split, the Dawgs fall in the series 2-1 after also losing the series opener on Friday.

Up next for the Bulldogs will be a road midweek contest against Oklahoma Christian on Tuesday (April 17) before remaining away from Weatherford with a weekend Arkansas trip to face Ouachita Baptist.

Game One

SWOSU 19, HSU 9 (7 Inn.)

The Bulldog bats scored at least four runs in each of the first three innings, and led 16-2 after three complete. Henderson State scored seven more runs before the end of the game, but three more SWOSU runs in the sixth inning ensured a run rule.


Eight of the nine starters in the lineup collected at least one hit, with six tallying at least two. SWOSU finished with 16 hits in the shortened seven-inning game, while Henderson had 13.

Brady Burtner led the offensive fury with a perfect 3-for-3 game at the plate, adding to his 4-for-5 performance a day earlier. Bryan Mirandaalso had three hits and finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs and runs scored. Alex Pimentel, Daniel Richardson, Robert Perea, and Marion McLean all added two hits apiece. Rogelio Sanchez had just one hit, but made it count with a three-RBI home run to right field.

Brendan Peitsmeyer (W, 3-1) threw all 7.0 innings and was responsible for all but one run he allowed, but still collected the win while striking out five Reddies in the process.


Game Two

Henderson State jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and then built their lead even further with three consecutive scoring innings from the third through the fifth.

The bats went quiet in the series final as SWOSU was limited to just two hits until the final inning. Trailing 9-1 and down to their final three outs, the Dawgs tacked on three runs on three hits in the frame and stranded a pair of base runners.

Bryan Miranda was responsible for SWOSU's first three hits in the game, including a solo home run in the fifth inning.

Tyler Tuck (L, 2-3) surrendered five runs (four earned) before he gave way to the bullpen. Justin Moreno, Jose Jaboy, and Jesse Lee all made appearances in relief and all threw at least one full inning, with Moreno and Laboy each allowing runs in their outing. Lee pitched two scoreless innings the final two innings, striking out three.
