Luis Chavez finishes first Boston Marathon 50th of 26,400 finishers

Alva man Luis Chavez ran the Boston Marathon for the first time Monday. He came in an impressive 50th place among 26,400 finishers.

The folks at Alva Market where he works said Chavez finished with a time of 2 hours 35 minutes. The overall winner of the Boston Marathon was Yuki Kawauchi, who finished in 2:15:58.

Chavez was one of the 14,842 males to start the race and 14,431 to finish. A standout cross-country runner in his Northwestern Oklahoma State University days, and with many other running honors, Chavez doing so extraordinary in his first Boston Marathon does not surprise those who know...
