Burlington School News: First graders become word doctors

April 20, 2018

Mrs. Davis instructs first grade students how to cut apart a word to form a contraction.

The first graders recently performed surgery on words to make them contractions. Each of the students received their identification tag giving them doctoral status. Then the students prepared for surgery by putting on their scrub cap, surgical mask and protective gloves. First grade teacher Candi Davis showed the class how to cut apart their words and use an adhesive strip "apostrophe" to turn their words into a contraction.

Aubrianna Thorlton shows the results of her successful word surgery.
