Part of Barnes Avenue being resurfaced

The 500 block of Barnes Avenue is in the early stages of resurfacing. Alva street department workers used an asphalt zipper to remove old asphalt. This area in front of the Bell Hotel has been cleared down to the dirt. While some wits opine it's a giant pothole and others suggest a swimming pool for the courthouse, it's actually part of the installation of an 80-foot-long concrete pad to accomodate the Big Cruise and Car Show burnout. The new asphalt for the rest of the street is on hold until temperatures are hot enough for the asphalt plant to begin production.
