Patchwork Friends OHCE group learns different gardening methods

The Patchwork Friends OHCE group held their regular meeting on April 19 at the home of Dee Mason. The hostess called the meeting to order and led the group in the flag salute. Devotion was given by the hostess from the calendar “On God's Way.” Roll call was answered to the question “Do you enjoy gardening?” Those answering were Doris White, Aleta Nolan, Liz Kinzie, Dee Mason, Dottie Gatz, Maureen Thomas and Joanne Prewett. Minutes of the March meeting were read by Gatz. The treasurer's report was given by Mason. Pennies and nickels were collected. President Prewett thanked all the members that were docents in April at the Cherokee Strip Museum.

Mason gave each member present 12 eight-inch squares. Each member will put their name on it and put 4 and a quarter squares on two sides. The name can be painted, embroidered or colored, member's choice. This way each member will have a friendship quilt when they are completed.

Prewett gave the lesson on “Raising the Bed” in the garden. Each member received a handout with colorful pictures and instruction on how to make a raised bed. Doris White gave a mini lesson on “Beatitudes for Homemakers” from a 1932 Christian Home Cookbook. Liz Kinzie gave a mini-lesson on how she grew a peach tree from a peach seed.

OHCE Week is May 6-12. Gatz will take the group's display board to the Alva City Library. An electronic sign on Oklahoma Boulevard will announce OHCE Week.

The spring OHCE Association meeting was held on May 7. This was a salad supper. Mary, Prewett and Gatz provided salads for Patchwork Friends.

The hostess gift was won by Kinzie. The meeting adjourned and the hostess served dessert. The May meeting will be held at the home of Gatz on May 10.
