Damaging winds and heavy rain leave behind damage

These hailstones From the Tuesday night storm are the size of tennis balls.

Woods County was hit hard by a severe storm system Tuesday night, including sections of Waynoka. The Eastman building, a prominent structure in the town, was damaged and its roof almost torn completely off. The site has been blocked off due to falling bricks. Strong winds were also to blame for excessive tree debris on the north end of town.

Tippe Bolar took this photo late afternoon Tuesday and prompted people of Freedom to be aware of dangerous hail.

The National Weather Service confirmed the touch down of a tornado between 7 and 8 p.m. in Waynoka, but no injuries were reported, per the Woods County Sheriff's Office.

In Freedom, the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has approved the disposal of limbs at the dump, but due to standing water at the dump site, tree debris should be gathered and pulled curbside where it will be picked next week for disposal. No set days were chosen for pickup a this time.

According to the Oklahoma Mesonet, Alva received 2.86 inches of rain, Freedom 1.25, and the May Ranch (northwest of Alva near Kansas border) 1.10 inches.
