119 women airplane racers coming to Alva June 19

Alva Regional Airport is first stop for 42nd Annual Air Race Classic

 


The Air Race Classic (ARC), the all-women cross-country airplane race, will be coming to Alva on Tuesday, June 19. Fifty-five airplanes will execute high-speed flybys over a timing line at Alva Regional Airport as teams race the clock on their way from Sweetwater, Texas, to Fryeburg, Maine.

This year's course covers 2,656 miles. The 119 racers have four days to complete the course, which will start in Sweetwater at 8 a.m. June 19 and end in Fryeburg at 5 p.m. June 22.
