NWTC offers firearms simulation training for area law enforcement
June 29, 2018
Northwest Technology Center will be offering firearms simulation training to local and regional law enforcement agencies. The firearms training simulation is an intensive training that simulates the use of firearms in real-world scenarios. The training facilities include two firearms training simulators, auxiliary firearms props, vests and over 800 training scenarios.
NWTC will have one classroom facility housed at Northwest Technology Center’s Alva campus and one portable classroom housed at Northwest Technology Center’s Fairview campus. The simulators provide immersive and interactive scenario-based training to enhance use-of-force judgment calls with state-of-the-art technology. In addition, the simulations improve situational learning by providing life-like practice in a safe environment.
The simulators are compatible with small arms, rifles, and less-lethal simulated weapons including tasers and batons. With this training law enforcement officers will increase their decision-making under stress skills, use of de-escalation techniques, ability to read body language and threat clues, response time, and their shooting accuracy and timing. Since firearms skills are perishable, the simulators will provide a cost-effective means for law enforcement officers to practice their skills and maintain their proficiency.
“We are excited to implement this innovative simulation technology with the training we currently offer our law enforcement agencies,” said Charlotte Hadwiger, NWTC’s business and industry services director on the Alva campus. “Law enforcement officers in our seven-county service area have indicated the need for a firearms simulator to assist with their training needs and we are pleased to offer them this innovative option. The ultimate winners of this new technology will be the citizens living in a safe and secure environment.”
According the Steve Kliewer, business and industry services director on NWTC’s Fairview campus, “The firearms simulator is one if the highest-quality training systems developed. We are excited to offer this opportunity to our law enforcement partners. The AR-15 and shotgun options will be awesome training tools. Our local law enforcement officers indicated that this system trains officers on the benefit of shooting and moving and the importance of cover and not crowding cover. The benefit of this training would be invaluable to all areas of law enforcement or armed security.”
