Focusing on children and families
July 8, 2018
Children and families are favorite subjects for local area photographer Evie Nusser Shriver. "I love kids. I think a lot of photographers have trouble with kids and families because they get really stressed out," she says, "but to me if I just let the kids run around and do what they want, these get the best photos, the best smiles."
Shriver started as a mom taking photos of her kids during their sports activities. "I don't really like to gossip," she says. This was a way for her to get away from the crowd while enjoying the events.
Eventually she took pictures of other kids and shared them with their moms. That led to photographing families and children.
From there, Shriver says she got into "collection," which she defines as old barns, old pickup trucks and other things that catch her eye as she drives by. Though these items and scenes might not be beautiful to others, she says, "Because of the sun, because of lighting, it just really pops for me."
Shriver, who lives in Medford and works in Alva, is a featured photographic artist during July at the Graceful Arts Gallery in Alva.
Shriver said she shoots all digital with a Nikon. "I shoot way too many photos. I spend way too many hours editing. But I really enjoy it."
