PARADISE VALLEY, Nev. (AP) — Brush and grass are fueling a wildfire in northern Nevada that has torched almost 700 square miles, making it the largest active wildfire in the U.S.

The Bureau of Land Management in Nevada says the fire burning in the Paradise Valley area, about 200 miles (322 kilometers) northwest of Reno, is 35 percent contained. It is not threatening populated areas.

Paul Petersen is the state fire management officer with the BLM in Nevada. He says the area has not seen precipitation in the past five days.
