Train hits, injures person on bridge east of Manhattan

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Authorities say a train has struck and injured a person on a bridge just east of Manhattan.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that emergency crews responded just after 7 a.m. Wednesday to the railroad bridge over the Big Blue River in western Pottawatomie County. Sheriff Greg Riat says the injured person was receiving medical treatment but the extent of that person's injuries wasn't immediately known.

Riat says the Union Pacific Railroad is investigating. No other details were immediately released.
