Three Reddies Earn 2017-18 NABC Honors Court Recognition

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Henderson State men's basketball players Josh Jones, Matt Panaggio and Kaylon Tappin were awarded for their work in the classroom on Tuesday afternoon, when all three were named to the 2017-18 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court.

The NABC Honors Court acknowledges student-athletes who have excelled academically during the past year. In order to be eligible, a player must be a junior or senior academically, carry a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the academic year and matriculated at least one year at their current institution.

Both Panaggio and Tappin exhausted their eligibility in 2017-18, while Jones has one season of eligibility remaining for 2018-19. Panaggio, from Port Orange, Florida, received his degree in Marketing in May, while Tappin, who hails from Little Rock, Arkansas, is finishing up his degree in Recreation and Sports Management this summer. Jones, from Memphis, Tennessee, is on track to receive his degree in Recreation and Sports Management in May of 2019.

All three were major contributors for the Reddies in 2017-18. Tappin was a First Team All-GAC selection who averaged 18.5 points per game, while Jones filled it up in his own right, averaging just under 14 points per game and shooting 41.5 percent from beyond the 3-point line. Panaggio did a little bit of everything for Henderson and averaged 7.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.

Henderson was one of just five schools in the Great American Conference to be represented on the 2017-18 Honors Court.
