Freedom man arrested on drug charges

A drug buy set up by an informant on social media has saddled a Freedom man with two felony charges.

Jamin Dean Shreeve, 46, of Freedom, is charged with distribution of controlled dangerous substance (methamphetamine) while within 2,000 feet of a school and with violation of Oklahoma statute via computer.

The first charge is punishable by imprisonment for four years to life or a fine of up to $40,000, or both. The second is punishable by imprisonment for not more than five years, or by a fine of not more than $5,000, or both such imprisonment and fine.

The drug buy was set up on Monday, July 16, according to documents filed in the case. Woods County Undersheriff Keith Dale met with a confidential informant (CI) who offered to set up the purchase of meth through a social media account. The CI agreed to give Shreeve a ride from an Alva downtown business to his place of employment at the south edge of Alva. The purchase was to take place during this trip.

Dale provided the CI with two $50 bills for the transaction. The CI’s vehicle was searched to make sure no illegal items were inside, and the CI was provided with a listening and audio recording device.

Undersheriff Dale met with the CI after Shreeve was dropped off at his work. The CI handed him one of the $50 bills, which was folded several times. The CI said while they were driving down the road, Shreeve removed a blue coin pouch from his pocket. It contained a plastic baggie that Shreeve opened, and he began to put a small quantity of methamphetamine on the bill, which he folded several times. The CI said Shreeve then took the other $50 in payment.

Dale opened the $50 bill and saw a crystal substance inside that he recognized as methamphetamine. He then went to Shreeve’s place of employment and placed him under arrest.

During a search of Shreeve’s person, Dale found a blue coin pouch that contained a baggie with marijuana residue, a foil pipe with marijuana residue and another baggie containing meth. He also found the $50 bill used to pay for the meth as well as $101 more, which was seized as evidence.

Shreeve was taken to the Woods County Sheriff’s office where he was read his Miranda rights, which he voluntarily waived. According to the affidavit, Shreeve admitted to communicating with the CI via Facebook Messenger for the purpose of distributing methamphetamine.

The downtown business where Shreeve was picked up is about 621 feet from the Alva Public School superintendent’s office and about 1,118 feet from Longfellow Elementary. The route they took passes within 2,000 feet of several different Alva schools including directly in front of Lincoln Elementary.

Dale conducted a limited records check on Shreeve, which revealed extensive criminal history dating back to 1990. Arrests and convictions include various narcotics-related charges along with possession of burglary tools, eluding a police officer, petit larceny, possession of stolen property and harboring a fugitive.
