Ouachita Ranked No.17 by College Football America Yearbook

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – College Football America has released this season's Division II Preseason Top 30 and Starting lineup; Ouachita Baptist checks in at No. 17 on the list and rising junior, Justin Gooseberry (Little Rock, Ark.) has been named to the Starting Lineup/All-American list.

Last season Ouachita Baptist capped off a 9-3 season with its third Great American Conference Football Championship in seven years. The Tigers won their last five games during the regular season to capture the title and earn just their second berth ever in the NCAA Division II Playoffs.

Ouachita head football coach Todd Knight picked up his 100th career victory against cross-town rival Henderson State. The Great American Conference named Knight Coach of the Year for the third time in his career at Ouachita. The Tigers also had 17 All-GAC selections at season's end including, four on the first team.

Ouachita and fellow GAC rival Harding are the only two Great American Conference schools recognized by the publication. Harding is ranked No.3 by the publication after a run to the national semifinals.

Gooseberry was one of only two players this past season to be voted unanimously to the All-GAC First Team. Gooseberry is an enforcer on an offensive line unit that ranked first in the nation in sacks allowed with an average of 0.55 allowed per game. The offensive line anchored an offensive that finished second in the GAC in scoring, rushing offense and third in total offense.

Gooseberry is one of four GAC players selected to the publications starting lineup/All-American list. Harding place running back Cole Chancey and linebacker Sam Blankenship on the list and Southern Arkansas had defensive lineman Davondrick Lison selected.

The Tiger football is returning to campus this week to begin preparing for the 2018 football season. Ouachita will kick-off their title defense on the road at Northwestern Oklahoma State at 6:00 p.m. on August 30. The Tigers home opener is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on September 8 against Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
