OBU Men's Tennis named ITA All-Academic Team

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Baptist men's tennis team has been named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team for their hard work both inside and outside the classroom, while four individuals were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.

"I couldn't be more proud of the guy's success in the classroom," head tennis coach Craig Ward said. "We have had a history of truly outstanding students for many years. I am proud to see these guys continue the tradition."

In order to be named an ITA All-Academic team, the program must have a cumulative team grade point average of a 3.20 or higher. All varsity letter winners were factored in for the fall semester of 2017 and 2018 spring semester.

Ouachita also had four players named to the ITA Scholar-Athlete list. Leading the way for the Tigers was Crafton Tull Elite Scholar Lennart Lonneman (Vechta, Germany). The senior finished his career in Arkadelphia with 32 singles wins and 39 doubles wins. In the classroom the native of Germany graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Accounting and Finance.

Joining Lonneman on the list were a trio of freshman from the Tigers squad. Carlos Solorzano (Morella, Mexico) is a Business Administration major with a 3.9 GPA. Javi Sanchis-Fito (Valencia, Spain) accumulated a 3.9 GPA while studying Finance in his first year at Ouachita. Juan Pablo Jaramillo (Medellin, Colombia) finished his rookie year in Arkadelphia with a 3.72 GPA in Business Administration. All three saw limited action on the court in their first year at Ouachita.

In order to earn the honor of being named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of a 3.50 or higher for the academic year and must be enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

This year the ITA named 735 teams and 4,328 student-athletes to their list across all five divisions of college tennis.
