Oklahoma voters to decide governor-lt. governor joint ticket
July 29, 2018
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma voters will decide in November if candidates for governor and for lieutenant governor should run on a joint ticket, much like candidates for U.S. president and vice president.
Gov. Mary Fallin on Friday issued an election proclamation to place the question, State Question 798, on the Nov. 6 ballot.
The proposal passed out of the Legislature earlier this year and would not take effect until 2026. The Legislature would develop the procedure for the joint nomination and election of the candidates.
Candidates for governor and lieutenant governor in Oklahoma are currently elected separately, meaning candidates from different political parties could hold the state's top two offices.
