August 5, 2018

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Diving crews have pulled the body of a 5-year-old child from the Kansas River, a day after the vehicle the child had been riding in crashed into the river.

The Lawrence Journal-World reports that the child's body was recovered Saturday morning.

Police say the child was a passenger of the vehicle that sunk Friday afternoon into the river in downtown Lawrence. The other passengers in the car, a 1-year-old child and an adult woman, were rescued shortly after the vehicle went into the water. Police have not released the names of the victims.

The search for the missing child was suspended Friday evening and resumed Saturday morning.

The vehicle also was pulled from the river by search and recovery crews.
