Alva Review-Courier -

August program for the Northwestern Oklahoma Genealogy Society

August 10, 2018

The August NWOGS guest speaker will be Lakin Ragains-Kastl who will present methods she used to publish her book “Relentless,” which is about the 1947 Woodward Tornado, on Aug. 11 at 10:30 a.m. in the Alva Public Library.

Kastl grew up in Burlington and now lives in Yukon. Her love of history began when she was in high school and she had the privilege of representing Oklahoma at the National History Day in Washington, D.C., at the age of 13. She earned her B.A. in political sciences from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. As she studied the Woodward tornado she developed a passion for the subject and made the decision to write the story, as there was little published documentation, and market her book, which she has done very successfully.

Kastl will give the group information on how each one can write their own family story. The story will be a very readable document, and a great history of the writer's family story using all of the facts the writer gathered through the years. Kastl again encourages families to document their family members stories. Each of our family members are like a small archive. Each person has a story to tell and Kastl will give suggestions about how to write your family story.

Come to the NWOGS Aug. 11meeting at 10:30 a.m. and learn more about how to organize your genealogy research and family history. Kastl will discuss methods she used to put historical research together and publish her book.

The next NWOGS meeting will be Sept. 8 at 10:30 a.m. at the Alva Public Library and there will be a guest speaker. Visitors are always welcome.
