Golden Suns ranked 14th in AVCA Division II preseason poll

August 10, 2018

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Arkansas Tech volleyball has been ranked 14th in the AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 Preseason Poll, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced Thursday.

The Golden Suns are the lone Great American Conference team in the preseason poll, after Arkansas Tech completed an undefeated regular season and added a fourth GAC Tournament Championship in 2017. Tech finished the 2017 season ranked 14th in the AVCA Top 25, after falling to No. 2 Southwest Minnesota in the NCAA Division II Central Region Championships.

Arkansas Tech cracked the Division II top 25 for the first time in program history in 2017, coming in at No. 24 in the week three poll after starting the season 14-0. The Suns steadily climbed the poll each week, reaching as high as eighth in the week 12 poll after Tech defeated Harding to win the GAC Championship and improve to 35-0.

The 2018 Golden Suns keep 13 players from last year's roster, including all six starters. All-America selection Amanda Milnick returns for her junior season, after earning GAC Player and Setter of the Year in 2017. Lexie Johnston, the AVCA Division II Freshman of the Year, also returns, as well as all-conference selections Allie Anderson and Hunter Eshnaur.

Arkansas Tech was voted the favorite in the GAC Preseason Poll last week, garnering 10 of 11 possible first-place votes. The Suns open the 2018 season in Warrensburg, Mo, as Tech competes in the Peggy Martin Challenge hosted by Central Missouri. Arkansas Tech opens the tournament against Central Missouri on Friday, August 24, at 1:00 p.m.
