"On Aug. 1, 1998, two things happened that changed my life forever. One of those things I was certain of, and the other I had no idea until years later," said Homestead Director Kelly Parker. He was speaking at the 20th Anniversary of The Homestead retirement community Thursday.

"You see, at the very moment my family, my wife's family and our friends were gathering at the church for our wedding day pictures, I'm told The Homestead was opening its doors to its very first resident.
