Oklahoma trooper recovering after shootout with driver

WOODWARD, Okla. (AP) — Authorities say an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper is recovering from his injuries after he was shot during a traffic stop early Sunday.

Highway Patrol Cpl. Mike Harrell says Trooper Austin Ellis is in good condition at an Oklahoma City hospital after the shooting. Harrell said Monday that the trooper's vest stopped the bullet but that Ellis suffered a fractured rib and some internal bleeding.

According to the Woodward News , the man accused of shooting Ellis was shot in the hand and remains in a hospital for treatment. Authorities say they expect to file charges against...
