STEPHENVILLE, Texas (Aug. 25) – Central Oklahoma made 20 hitting errors and fell to Texas A&M-Commerce on the second day of the Tarleton State Invitational here Saturday.

The No. 16-ranked Bronchos took the first set 25-21 only to see the Lions come back to claim the next three, 25-18, 25-20, 25-19. It was the second straight loss after a season-opening win for UCO, which finishes the two-day tourney at 4:30 against host and No. 18-rated Tarleton State.

"We just made too many mistakes," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "It sounds simple, but we just have to play better. Teams aren't going to give it to us."

Central hit just .130 for the match, collecting 40 kills against 20 errors in 154 attacks.

Taylor Bevis again led the Bronchos with 15 kills, seven digs and three total blocks. Jordan Spence had seven kills and four assisted blocks, while Haley Deschenes also had seven kills.

Amanda Desch and McKenzie Fyfe handed out 18 assists apiece and Dominique Lipari contributed 18 digs.

The teams were tied 13 times in a back-and-forth first set. UCO trailed 19-17 before Spence sandwiched a pair of kills around a combined block with Desch to spark a 6-0 run that put the Bronchos in front to stay at 23-19.

Bevis had six kills against just one error in 18 attacks and Spence had three kills in the opening-set win.

Central never led in the second set, falling behind 7-3 early. The Bronchos were in striking distance at 19-17 after back-to-back kills by Bevis and Spence, but the Lions scored the next three points and went on to even the match.

UCO tried to bounce back in the third set and was up 6-3 after two Karyn Chrisman kills in a 4-0 run. It was 8-all before TAMU-C surged in front for good, with the Lions holding off a late comeback try by the Bronchos.

A combined block by Bevis and Spence gave UCO an early 5-4 lead in the fourth set and it was tied at 5, 7, 10 and 11 when Commerce ran off five unanswered points to take control en route to closing out the match.
