Fairview woman dies in 3-vehicle crash

A Fairview woman died of injuries received in a three-vehicle collision Friday. The wreck occurred at 12:40 p.m. Aug. 31 on U.S. Highway 412 at County Road 580. The location is a half mile south and two miles east of Cleo Springs in Major County.

Karen Sue McKinney, 74, of Fairview was pronounced dead at the scene from head, trunk and internal injuries by the Major County EMS. She was taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Oklahoma City.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says McKinney was eastbound on US412 in a 2015 Chevy Equinox when she slowed to make a left turn onto CR580. A 2017 Peterbilt driven by Roland Edward Best II, 47, of Lahoma was also eastbound and struck the rear of the McKinney vehicle. The McKinney vehicle then struck a westbound 2015 GMC driven by Judy L. Broomfield, 57, of Cleo Springs.

Bloom field and a passenger Timothy J. Burns, 66, of Cleo Springs, were taken by private vehicle to St. Mary’s Hospital in Enid where they were treated and released. Best was not injured.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
