Savage Late Goal Sends Harding Men's Soccer Past William Jewell

SEARCY – Harding overcame an early William Jewell goal and scored the game-winner late in the second half of a 2-1 victory Tuesday in the Bisons' home opener.
With the victory, Harding moves to 2-0-1, its best-ever start after three games. William Jewell, a member of the Division II Great Lakes Valley Conference, fell to 0-1-0.
With the score tied 1-1, Harding freshman Jack Savage got loose down the left side, outran a defender and beat William Jewell goalkeeper Quinn Ruggeri to the far post to give the Bisons the win. It was Savage's team-leading second goal of the season, both of them game-winning goals.
William Jewell opened the scoring in the third minute. Drew Dempsey sent a cross over to Teddy Gifford, who scored from just outside the 6-yard box.
Harding equalized in the 30th minute with Savage sending a cross from the right side to the near post. Jason Diaz knocked home the goal from close range, his first of the season.
Harding will play the second of three straight home games Friday at 7 p.m. against Mississippi College.

Harding has two wins in its first three games for the fifth time in 19 seasons as a program.
Harding outshot William Jewell 17-9 overall and 11-5 shots on goal.
Harding now leads the series with William Jewell 2-1. The home team has won all three matchups.
