SHAWNEE, Okla. — Southern Nazarene closed out the weekend without dropping a set as it swept both Fort Hays State and Missouri Southern State to close out the GAC/MIAA Crossover.

SNU (6-7) downed the Tigers (26-24, 27-25, 25-23) before outlasting the Lions (25-23, 25-21, 25-21)

The Storm survived three tight sets against Fort Hays in the opener. There were 30 ties and 13 lead changes in the match. Ten of the ties came in the first set as no one led by more than four. The Tigers led 21-18 late in the set, but SNU used a 5-1 run capped by a Bailee Turang kill to lead 23-22. Fort Hays though took set point with two straight points, but the Storm answered by scoring three straight, the first two on Turang kills, to take the first set.

There were 14 ties in the second set and again no team led by more than four. SNU broke a 20-20 tie with back-to-back kills from Turang and Kayla Thomas and took a 23-21 lead on another kill by Thomas. The Tigers though scored three straight to notch set point at 24-23. A Kylie Smith kill followed by an ace gave SNU set point at 25-24. The Storm had set-point again at 26-25 on a Turang kill before a FHSU error gave Southern Nazarene a 2-0 lead in the match.

SNU never trailed in the third set, but had to fight off the Tigers all the way down the stretch in the final set. Fort Hays tied it late at 23, but a Makenna Hunter kill and a Turang ace put the match away.

Smith recorded her third double-double of the year as she had 34 assists and 15 digs along with four aces. Turang had 12 kills and 15 digs for her sixth double-double. Thomas had 10 kills and two blocks as well. Meagan Ellis had 15 digs to go with seven kills while Logan Matthews had 10 digs. Hunter and Addi Floyd each had two blocks.

In the final match of the day, Turang had 12 kills and 11 digs while Ellis had 11 kills and four digs. Smith dished out 28 assists and had three aces. Shonamon added 12 digs while Matthews had 10.

Neither team led by more than four in the first set as SNU held its biggest lead of the set at 21-17. The Lions answered with four straight to tie it at 21. The two exchanged two more leads until Thomas had back-to-back aces to give SNU a 1-0 lead.

In the second set, SNU broke a 6-6 tie with a Hunter kill that sparked a 10-1 run as SNU led 16-7. Missouri Southern used a 13-4 run to cut it to 22-20, but SNU held the Lions off from there to take a 2-0 lead. The Storm put it away in the third set when Turang broke a 12-12 tie with a kill with the first of our straight points to lead 16-12. The Lions came no closer from that point on.
