September 14, 2018

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Rogers State women's soccer team scored early in the first half en route to a 1-0 victory at Lubbock Christian on Thursday (Sept. 13) afternoon at the LCU Soccer Field to begin Heartland Conference action for both the Hillcats and Lady Chaps.

Sophomore forward Hannah Mushisky tallied the game winner, her second goal of the season, in the 13th minute of action to put the navy and red in front 1-0 in the early minutes of the road contest.

The one goal was all the Hillcats (4-1, 1-0 Heartland Conference) needed as the strong RSU defense posted its third shutout of the season in the 1-0 victory.

Senior goalkeeper Taylor Sargent, who was named the Heartland Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, totaled another shutout, her 14th in her two seasons in the navy and red. She finished with three saves in 90 minutes. The senior from The Colony, Texas moved to 4-1 on the season.

In the game, the shots were even at 12-12, but RSU held a 5-3 edge in shots on goal. Mushisky led the team with three shots. Sophomore Maggie Brown and freshman Laurelle Theodore each added two shots.

With the win, the Hillcats extended their unbeaten streak in Heartland Conference games to eight-straight contests with their last loss against LCU on Sept. 30, 2017 in Claremore.

The Hillcats continue their five-game road trip at Oklahoma Christian on Saturday (Sept. 15) in Oklahoma City. Live stats and video streaming will be available for the contest.
