Northwestern football plays host to Reddies on Family Day

ALVA, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State University football team looks to defend its home turf Saturday evening as the Rangers host Henderson State at 6 p.m. at Ranger Field.
Saturday will be the annual Family Day event at Northwestern, with the Lady Ranger volleyball team also hosting East Central at noon in Percefull Fieldhouse. Those participating in Family Day activities with a wristband will be admitted to both the football and volleyball events for free.
Northwestern is seeking its first win of the season with the HSU coming to Alva. The Rangers enter the contest with a record of 0-2, with both losses ending in a one-possession ball game, and the Reddies enter the match at 1-1 following a win on the road Arkansas Tech.
Saturday’s showdown boasts the No. 3 GAC offense in Northwestern with 422 yards a game, while the Reddies find themselves giving up 10 more yards a game on defense.
The Rangers tallied 481 yards of offense last week in rainy weather at Arkansas-Monticello, including 263 yards and three touchdowns through the air from quarterback Isaiah Week. His top target against the Boll Weevils was Gavin Garner who caught the ball eight times for 144 yards, the second most yards by a Ranger since 2014.
The passing game was complimented by the Ranger running game, featuring the work of Jacob Peyton. The Perkins native rushed for a 163 yards on 19 carries. His performance matched the most yards rushed by a Ranger since joining the NCAA ranks.
Defensively, the duo of Dakota Driskill and Maurice Wright Jr. continued to add to their stat sheets as Driskill moved to tenth nationally with 28 total tackles and Wright brought his total to 26 in the first two games, ranking him 12th in the nation.
Saturday will be the seventh meeting between the Rangers and Reddies, with the visitors holding a 4-2 advantage over Northwestern in the all-time series. Henderson State has won the two previous games at Ranger Field.
