Soccer: Lady Eagles fall to Newman in Heartland opener

OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 13, 2018) – Oklahoma Christian fell 6-0 to Newman (Kan.) on Thursday at the Eagle Soccer Field in the Heartland Conference opener for both women's teams.
Kennedy Weaver had a hat trick to lead Newman (5-0, 1-0 Heartland), scoring in the 42nd, 63rd and 74th minutes. Colleen Howland (sixth minute), Vanessa Ortiz (23rd minute) and Karen Tamayo (32nd minute) had Newman's first three goals.
Newman outshot OC (0-4, 0-1) by an 18-6 count. OC used two goalkeepers, with Addison Milner making two saves in the first half and freshman Josie Knox recording four in the second half during her first collegiate action.
The Jets also used two goalkeepers, with Jackie Lari making one save in the first half and Ashley Sweetnam none in the second half. Denise Bennett had OC's only shot on goal.
The Lady Eagles will return to action on Saturday, when they will host in-state rival Rogers State at noon.
