A Cleo Springs man has been charged with felonies after being stopped by law enforcement in a vehicle he did not own.

Court records show Alva Police Officer Sean Farris was contacted on Sept. 3 by Woods County Dispatch to return a call to Michael Martin about a stolen vehicle and trailer. Martin told him Deputy Harris from Major County was in Carmen and called him to inquire about his 2015 Chevrolet flatbed pickup. The deputy said he found Washington driving the pickup in Carmen. Washington was wanted for several charges out of Major County. Martin said he told the deputy he did not know Washington and the truck must have been stolen.

Martin provided information about the pickup and an attached trailer that were missing from where he parked them on private property at Seiling and Maple Streets in Alva. He described the truck as a 2015 Chevy Silverado flatbed 1 ton 4x4 with an attached 2004 Palmer tandem axle trailer with a 500 gallon diesel tank and electric pump.

Martin left Alva to retrieve his pickup from Carmen and happened across his Palmer trailer located on an oil field site just south of U.S. Highway 64 on County Road 500. Martin said the estimated value of the pickup was $35,000 and the trailer was valued at over $6,000.

Farris spoke to Deputy Harris who confirmed Washington had been found driving Martin’s pickup.

On Sept. 4 Farris met with Jeremy Darr at the Alva Police Department. Darr reported his Smith and Wesson Bodyguard .380 was stolen from a gun cabinet at his home on Sept. 3. Darr had contacted Deputy Harris after learning that Washington had been arrested. Washington and Darr are coworkers, and Darr had allowed Washington to stay at his residence.

Darr said Washington apparently broke the locked gun cabinet in Darr’s home and took the pistol from within it, covering up the damage with pillows from nearby furniture. Darr described the pistol and showed Farris a bill of sale for the firearm. The description and serial number were confirmed with Deputy Harris.

Henry Dan Washington III, 23, of Cleo Springs is charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, grand larceny and larceny from the house, all felonies.
