Emporia State Volleyball sweets Ft. Hays State to clench first MIAA win

September 15, 2018- Emporia State Volleyball swept Fort Hays State 3-0 on Saturday for their first MIAA win of the season. The Hornets gained control of the match early and held the momentum throughout.

The Hornets took control of the first set with a 5-0 run to take a 10-4 lead. The Hornets defense held strong not allowing the Tigers back within two as they went on to a 25-14 set win. Set two had a similar outcome as the Hornets jumped out to an early 10-4 lead and the Tigers brought the score back to 11-9 before the Hornets took a 6-0 to lead 17-9 late in the set. The Hornets would finish the set 25-15 over the Tigers to take the 2-0 match lead. The Hornets jumped out to an 11-4 lead early in the third set and did not let the Tigers closer than six points for the remainder of the set as they went on to win set three 25-15 and take the match 3-0.

The Hornets were led by Tatum Graves with 13 kills followed closely by Taylor Otting who recorded her second double-double in a row with ten kills and 14 digs. Emma Dixon also recorded a double-double with a game leading 22 assists and ten digs. Yuchen Du led the Hornets with 15 digs while Allie Maloney added 12.


The Hornets will be back in action on Tuesday, September 18 as they travel to Washburn for the first Turnpike Tussle match of the 2018 season.
