Southeastern Volleyball Picks up Five-Set Win over NWOSU

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern landed the final blow in a back-and-forth slugfest on Friday night in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium, downing Northwestern Oklahoma State 3-2 in a key Great American Conference matchup of teams fighting for position.
The win lifts the Savage Storm to 6-11 overall on the season and 2-3 in GAC play as they will now have a week to prepare for an Arkansas Road swing to face Arkansas tech and Harding on Sept. 29 and 30, respectively.
The SE offense was paced by a trio of hitters with Abby Jameson putting up a match-high 17 kills, while Jaclyn Menner added 13 and Arianna Baker chipped in 12.
Sydney Meget triggered the offense with a season-high 50 assists while adding a adding a pair of blocks and seven digs.
Defensively, Caitlin Cosby nearly matched her season-high in digs, finishing one short of that mark with 28 on Friday while also chipping in four of the team's 10 service aces.
She was joined in double-digit digs by Kristi Carter with 14, while Menner added eight.
At the net, Caroline Griffith finished with five total blocks, including one solo, while Meget, Jameson, and Hannah Grant each added two.
Southeastern took the first eight points of set one and never looked back on its way to a 25-18 win and an early 1-0 lead.
It would not last long however as the Rangers would return the favor, opening on a 12-4 run to take control and eventually the set 25-11 to event he match at 1-1.
The Storm responded and again opened strong, taking an early 8-2 lead and slowly edging away with a 25-19 win to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
However, NWOSU runs would prove costly in the fourth set as the visitors would pull ahead early and take the set 25-17 to event he match at 2-2.
In the deciding frame it was all Southeastern as the Storm jumped to a 7-1 lead and would cruise to a 15-8 win in the set and a 3-2 win in the match.
