All members of the Burlington School Board were present at their regular monthly meeting Tuesday, Sept. 18, as board president Terry Graham called the meeting to order. They are: Allison Armbruster, Robert Hill, T.J. Rockenbach and Aaron Smith. Also present were: Superintendent Dr. Stacey Croft, Principal Lane Pruett and Minutes Clerk Tamre McGinnis.

The board officially accepted the Alfalfa County Election Board Certified results of the $870,000 combined purpose bond election from August 28. The board then approved the resolution for the sale of the $870,000 combined purpose bonds of the school district. The bids are due to be in the superintendent's office Oct. 10 at 11:45 a.m. with the sale at noon. That will be considered a board meeting.

The board reviewed the Burlington School Accreditation Status for 2017-2018. Burlington was accredited with no deficiencies, so no action was needed.

The 2018-19 Estimate of Needs is to be sent to the excise board for certification. Croft said that amount is $5,812,297.53.

A contract was approved and signed with CareerTech on the ag program. The CareerTech student organization affiliated with agricultural education is FFA. Through that contract, Career Tech provides a percentage of the ag teacher's salary and more.

The board reviewed the schedule of school administrators salary and fringe benefits with no action needed. They also approved the August 2018 Activity Fund report.

The Elks' first home basketball game is Nov. 2. The board voted to leave ticket prices the same as last year for ballgames. This includes season tickets, senior citizen passes and gate prices for the 2018-19 basketball season.

A motion to re-approve Purchase Order 122 for $3,350 and Purchase Order 128 for $1,000 received board approval.

The following encumbrances, change orders and warrants for 2018-2019 were approved: general fund encumbrances 144-174 $21,401.92; warrants 162-274 $237,143.59; Building Fund Warrant 8 $530.87 and child nutrition fund encumbrances 11 – 12 $1,258 and warrants 6 - 10 $4,794.94.

An Internal Activities Committee was approved for 2018-2019 with members Lane Pruett, Travis Bradshaw, Randy Turney, Kirsten Pruett, Garrett Bebermeyer, Ken Jones and Isileli Ofiu. The committee will also include one student each from the elementary and high school.

Receiving board approval was the Safe School Committee and Healthy and Fit School Advisory Committee with Lane Pruett as chairman. Members are Misty McCullough, Apryl Burleson, Jennifer Newlin, Kirsten Pruett, Rhonda Pinkston, Randy Turney, Lindsey Morgan and Allison Armbruster.

Superintendent Croft was approved as designee to review results of national criminal history record search. The board reviewed the FR3 expenditure/revenue as of June 30 with no action needed.

The board spent about 45 minutes in executive session to discuss future building projects with no action taken.

Superintendent Croft Reports on Enrollment, Principal Pruett on Students

In her superintendent's report to the board, Croft gave the most recent enrollment figures. She listed high school enrollment at 32. Grade school enrollment is 99 for a total enrollment of 131 students. The number of students transported daily is 66. The number of students qualifying for bus routes is 92.

She reminded the board of the OSSBA Region 2 Meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Timberlake's multi-purpose building in Helena. She gave a brief report on the OSSBA Convention, commenting on workshops that were beneficial.

In his principal's report, Pruett said Caitlyn Flackman was crowned Miss Burlington and will compete in the Miss Cinderella Talent Show and Pageant. That is in Alva during NWOSU's Homecoming festivities Oct. 4-6.

The FCA hosted a blood drive and had 23 successful donations. Pruett said several students had entries in the county fair: Brooke Whittet, Lauren Lagos, Gavis McCullough, Mylee Sims and Kaycee Matzke. Several students also have entries in the Oklahoma State Fair in Oklahoma City.

Burlington's Cross Country has so far competed in two meets. Runners placing at the first meet were: Rory Olson, Anna Motyka and Kayla Highfill. Athletes placing at the second meet were: Rory Olson, and Anna Motyka.

The principal said the junior/senior play was earlier in the evening and was “a great success.” He mentioned that Burlington's robotics team went to Northwestern the previous Saturday for the robotics kick-off.
