Homecoming!
October 5, 2018
Homecoming is such an exhilarating time of year. For some, the excitement has its epicenter at Herod Hall, where several well deserving young ladies will vie for the honor of becoming the next Miss Cinderella. A time-honored tradition at NWOSU, this event draws contestants from several area schools. Look for the perfect combination of gorgeous girls in gorgeous dresses, riding in gorgeous cars in the homecoming parade Saturday morning.
Others will have already put in a day’s effort before the parade begins. The ever popular 5K and fun run happen far too early in the day for this old man. Plus, they don’t throw candy as they make their way around the 3.2-mile course. Our daughter and grand-daughter will be enjoying the “fun-run” without me.
For some, the homecoming festivities are all about the sounds of marching bands. Not only do several area bands make a habit of gracing our parade, but we’re also treated to some amazing “mass band” performances at the stadium. The future of the arts and music in northwest Oklahoma is extremely important and NWOSU’s new director, Mr. Cudd, will have his hands full with all the future Ranger prospects that Homecoming brings to town. In addition to the young-uns, the Ranger alumni band never fails to please. Once a Ranger, always a Ranger. RRR!
We certainly don’t want to leave out the sports teams that will be competing over the weekend. Besides the upcoming win at the football venue, the volleyball team will be playing two matches in the fieldhouse: Friday evening at 6 p.m. and Saturday at noon. The latter game will be against my alma mater, Harding University (go Bison – when they’re somewhere else). The soccer team is also scheduled to play SNU on the home pitch Saturday at noon. Whatever your taste – pageants, music, parades, sports and more will be waiting on you this weekend.
Of course, the homecoming festivities will be over in plenty of time for ALL of us to get up and attend worship on Sunday. In case we’ve forgotten, there is another homecoming in our future. A time when all of God’s people will be brought home to a place we’ve never seen, but somehow know by heart. Enjoy the weekend. See you Sunday.
