Following executive session at their regular October meeting Monday night, Kiowa's City Council hired a new police officer.

He is Travis Petersen who was on the job Tuesday helping the new police chief Nate Houston. He comes to Kiowa from the Harper County, Kansas Sheriff's Department. He's originally from Argonia.

This is according to Kiowa City Administrator Lou Leone. He said the council also authorized him to advertise for a water operator apprentice and for another employee in the public works department.
