Students at Burlington recently celebrated Red Ribbon Week, a national prevention awareness campaign for alcohol, tobacco, drugs and violence. Each day had a designated theme for everyone to dress up and show their support.

Monday's theme was "Too bright to do drugs." Students dressed in neon colors and sunglasses. The same day the student council did a presentation to pre-K through second grade on making sure they have a trustworthy adult give them medicine and about bullying. They also went around the school asking people to participate in a pledge against drugs.

Tuesday's theme was "We're drug free! What's your superpower?" Students showed of their superpower by dressing as superheroes or real life heroes such as doctors, policeman and firefighters.

Wednesday students wore bandanas to support the theme "Band together against drugs."

Thursday's theme was "Freedom from bullying and drugs." Students dressed in red, white and blue.

Friday's theme was "Lei off drugs" and students dressed in Hawaiian clothes and were given leis.

The festivities for the last day of Red Ribbon Week included the student council giving a presentation to the junior high and high school students on what drugs can do to them. They encouraged them to stand up to bullies and help anyone that might be struggling with drugs.

After the presentation the student council announced the best-dressed winners for the week from each class and the winners for the coloring contest for pre-K through second grade.
