November 2, 2018

SHAWNEE, Okla. – The second-seeded SWOSU Soccer team used second-half goals from Ashlyn Collier and Sandra Nabweteme to defeat Harding 2-0 in the Great American Conference semifinals on Thursday at the OBU Soccer Complex.

With the victory, the Bulldogs advance to the GAC Championship match for the fourth consecutive season, where they will face the winner of Thursday's second semifinal between Oklahoma Baptist and Ouachita at 7:00 pm on Saturday in Shawnee.

The Bulldogs offensive attack sent 14 shots the way of the Harding goalkeeper in the half, keeping the Bisons defenders on their heels but neither team was able to break onto the scoreboard. The Dawgs would see several opportunities to put points on the board, but came up shy by hitting the post with multiple shots. SWOSU's defense contained the Bisons offense in the first half holding Harding to just two shots in the half. The first 45 minutes of play would end in a tie, as neither side would score in the half.

SWOSU ended the scoreless tie in the 52nd minute when Collier poked a ball in the back of the net off a shot deflected off a Harding defender. Nabweteme extended the Bulldog lead in the 59th minute capitalizing on a penalty shot after a Bisons foul inside the goalkeeper box. Steffi Silvera and the SWOSU defense kept Harding off the board in the second half to complete the shutout and holding the Bisons to just seven shots in the match.
