Men's Cross Country: Bison Finish Second at GAC Championship

November 4, 2018

EDMOND, Oklahoma – A pack mentality proved crucial as Oklahoma Baptist posted their best finish at the Great American Conference Championship, finishing second in the team standings and placing four on the All-GAC roster.

"I couldn't be more proud of how the guys raced today," said head coach Matt Kennedy. "They really executed well. They trusted in the race strategy and have grown so much throughout the season. It was great to see that on display today."

Entering the season, OBU had been picked to finish third in the conference. The Bison not only improved on their spot, but beat the preseason favorites, Harding, by 41 points. Oklahoma Baptist was in fourth place at the 3,300-meter split, but jumped over both Southern Arkansas and HU.

The Bison scored 48 points and had three runners finish in the top six of the race. All five scoring runners for OBU finished inside the top 16.

Freshman Noah Eskew paced OBU, finishing fourth overall after crossing the line in 25:59.8 on the 8,000-meter course. Blaine Whitson and DeAngelo Robles were right behind Eskew in fifth and sixth, respectively, after posing times of 26:05.4 and 26:08.9. All three were named to First Team All-GAC.

Jarrett Ellis picked up second-team honors after finishing 15th overall in a time of 26:47.9. Cameron Mills was OBU's final scorer, finishing just outside the all-conference positions in 18th after crossing the line in 26:58.4.

Garrett Elmore and Nathan Crowson served as displacers for the Bison, finishing 19th and 22nd overall with times of 26:58.8 and 27:02.6. Carlos James placed 46th with a time of 28:52.1, while Caleb Dyer placed 61st in a time of 30:35.8.

Prior to the race, Crowson received the GAC's Distinguished Scholar Athlete Award. He was one of just two runners in the men's race to receive an academic award.
