Love

“If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging symbol” (1 Corinthians 13:1, NIV).

Many may recognize this passage from marriage counseling or a class on dating, but when Paul penned these words, he was in the midst of a section of teachings about spiritual giftedness. In the church at Corinth, where Paul had ministered approximately 18 months, there were lots of Christians with miraculous gifts. Among those gifts were the ability to speak in languages they had not naturally acquired and the gift of prophecy, which enabled them...
