Men's Basketball: Muleriders down Southeastern Baptist behind five double-figure scorers

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Fifty first-half points set the tone for Southern Arkansas on Tuesday evening inside the W.T. Watson Center as the Muleriders, in their 2018-19 home opener, put on a show for a rowdy crowd of almost 900 fans en route to their second consecutive win with a 94-55 victory over Southeastern Baptist College.

Southern Arkansas (2-1) benefitted from five players reaching double figures in scoring and were led by Draylan Perkins' 16 points, which included four trifectas. CJ Elkins followed with 15 points and Snyder Cenecharles chipped in with 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting and 5-of-6 from the line and added a game-high nine rebounds to go along with two assists and a pair of steals.

Aaron Lucas and Gabe Gilliam finished with 11 and 10 points respectively. DeVante Brooks added eight boards.

The Muleriders dominated in all facets of the game in the win over the Chargers. SAU grabbed 44 rebounds including 14 on the offensive end which led to 17 second chance points. Defensively, Southern Arkansas allowed SBC to shoot just 20.8% (5-of-24) from deep and forced 24 turnovers which led to 33 points off of turnovers.

SAU was out and running for most of the contest as they registered 32 fast break points which helped stack into 42 paint points.

SAU's Wesley Nosakhare scored the game's first points on a soft touch shot inside and the Chargers quickly answered with a bucket to tie the game. A fast break basket following a three-point miss by the Muleriders put SBC up 4-2, but Lucas knocked down a triple try on the return trip down the court to put Southern Arkansas out front 5-4 and give the Muleriders the lead for good with 18:06 left in the first half.

Southern Arkansas shot 47.4% (36-of-76) from the floor and made 11 three-point shots.

The Muleriders host Paul Quinn College on Saturday, November 17, at 2 p.m. inside the W.T. Watson Center.
