Men's Basketball: Reddies Cruise Past Ecclesia 103-61 in Home Opener

November 15, 2018

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State shot 52.1 percent from the floor and had four players in double figures as the Reddies cruised past Ecclesia College 103-61 on Tuesday night in their home opener at the Duke Wells Center.

Rel Johnson led the way for Henderson with 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting. Eric Dailey added 19 points and six rebounds, while Anthony Lupardus had 18 points and was 4-for-8 from beyond the 3-point line. Terrence Parker had his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

The Reddies (3-0) jumped out in front 17-6 on the Royals in the opening minutes behind 10 points from Johnson, but Ecclesia (0-6) hung around and trimmed the deficit down to just 20-16 with 9:20 to go until halftime. At that point, Henderson turned it on and finished the period on a 29-14 run to take a 49-30 lead into the break.

Henderson kept its foot on the gas to start the second half and used a dunk from Parker and an alley-oop from Dailey to Jeremiah Toney to fuel a 21-6 run in the first five minutes, which stretched the lead to 70-36. The Royals did their best to close the gap, but never threatened again, as Henderson raced away for a comfortable 42-point win.

As a team, the Reddies held Ecclesia to 33.8 percent shooting on the night, which included a mark of 17.6 percent from 3-point range. Henderson, however, shot the ball well, particularly in the second half, when the Reddies shot a scorching 55.8 percent from the field. 10 different Henderson players got into the scoring column in the win.

Henderson looks to continue its unbeaten start to the season on Saturday, when the Reddies travel to Clinton, Mississippi, to take on Mississippi College at 4 p.m.
