DOROTHY FAYE SHEPHERD

Funeral services for Dorothy Faye Shepherd will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 17, 2018, at the Waynoka First United Methodist Church with Pastor Wendie Jencks-Wilson officiating. Interment will be in the Waynoka Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva. There will be a visitation with the family Friday, November 16, 2018, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Marshall Funeral Home of Alva.

Dorothy Faye Shepherd, daughter of the late Jesse Carroll and Ellen Olive (Barber) Hull, was born March 26, 1930, on the ranch southeast of Waynoka, and passed away November 10, 2018, at Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 88 years, 7 months and 14 days.

Dorothy attended Walnut Grove School through the eighth grade, graduated from Waynoka High School, and attended Northwestern State Teacher's College. On March 23, 1952, she was united in marriage to JB Shepherd in Waynoka. They lived in Alva where she worked as a legal secretary and was the first teletype setter for the Alva Review Courier and worked there until JB graduated from college. They moved to Attica, Kansas, for a couple of years, then Lakin, Kansas, for six years, then to Garden City where she continued to work as a teletype operator.

She was an active member of the Waynoka First United Methodist Church, serving as President of the United Methodist Women for 20 years, served on the board of directors of the Wesley House, and served as a lay member of the Oklahoma Conference of United Methodist Church. She was very active with her husband in the farming and ranching operation, helping with the cattle and driving a tractor. They had about 140 hives of bees that they harvested. She loved cooking, gardening, and was an excellent seamstress, sometimes looking at a picture and making a pattern out of newspapers to make the dress. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Philip Shepherd; her granddaughter, Rebecca Simon; three brothers, infant Winston Charles, Jack, and Darrel Hull; and four sisters, Chrystal Burt, Della Mae Schuette, Carol Lee Kassik and Ruthie Downs.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, JB Shepherd of Waynoka, one daughter, Kathy Simon and husband, Tim; her son, Ray Shepherd and wife, Mae Ann; her grandchildren, Stephen Shepherd and spouse, Chanhui, Jeffrey Shepherd and wife, Liz, Deborah Perdue and husband, Nathan, Sarah Whipple and husband, Jay, Daniel Simon, Matthew Simon, Emmalee Koller and husband, Jack; her great grandchildren, Mikiah, Tilmon, and Evy Perdue, and James Braden Shepherd; her siblings, Eleanor Blain, Janie Kanaga, and Donald Hull and wife, Cindy; other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Clarehouse, a hospice facility in Tulsa.
