NWOSU Chorale to sing with area students in Holiday Choral Festival

November 16, 2018

Northwestern Oklahoma State University Fine Arts Department will host its third annual Holiday Choral Festival Monday, Nov. 19, at 6 p.m. in Herod Hall Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.

The concert will feature five different holiday songs performed by the NWOSU Chorale and 60 high school students from Alva; Enid; Burlington; South Barber, Kansas; and Vici. In addition to these five songs, the chorale and high school singers will each sing two songs individually to begin the concert.

Dr. Brady Allred, director of Salt Lake Choral Artists, will be the guest conductor and will be working with the students all day before the performance.

Karsten Longhurst, instructor of music and the cChorale director, said Allred is an all-around conductor and has been in Europe, Asia, South America, Africa and the Middle East.

Longhurst said he thinks this festival will be a great learning experience for his students.

“I want my students to understand what it’s like to work with a lot of other conductors,” Longhurst said. “They need to be flexible; they need to be able to be musicians with whoever is conducting them.”

He said this festival will be an amazing experience for all students and is a great opportunity to recruit singers.

“We want to create experiences that are really amazing, that are transformative and that help singers grow.”
