OKLAHOMA CITY (Dec. 5, 2018) – Jimmy Burke made a bit of Oklahoma Christian athletic history on Wednesday, when he became the first from OC to be named as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's men's swimmer of the week.

Burke, a freshman from Deer Park, Texas, shined for the Eagles over the weekend in the Hendrix Invitational in Conway, Ark., winning two distance events at the meet.

On Friday night, Burke bested a field of 16 swimmers to win the 500-yard freestyle in 4:54.51, and the next day, he won the 1,650-yard freestyle in 17:23.09, topping a field of nine competitors.

"Jimmy dominated the 500 freestyle and the 1,650 freestyle this last weekend with season bests," OC coach Josh Davis said. "It was great to see him step up and be a team leader and be an example of how to manage one's energy and got the job done."

OC's swimming program is in its second season of existence. The Eagles compete in the RMAC, a league that includes NCAA Division II powers Oklahoma Baptist, Colorado Mesa and Colorado Mines.

The Eagles' final meet of the first semester will be Dec. 14-16, when they will compete in the TYR Elite Meet at the Edmond YMCA Recreation and Aquatic Center.
