Harding Women's Basketball Suffers First GAC Loss at Henderson State

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State had a 30-point second quarter and defeated Harding 84-77 Saturday in Great American Conference women's basketball action at the Duke Wells Center.
Henderson State (7-1, 3-0) ran its winning streak to five games and remained in a first-place tie with Southwestern Oklahoma with the victory, winning its seventh straight home game dating to last season. Harding (6-2, 2-1) had its five-game winning streak snapped and fell a game behind the leaders by one game.
Harding led 22-21 with just over eight minutes left in the second quarter, but Henderson State had separate 8-0 and 7-0 runs and led 48-36 at halftime.
Henderson State pushed its lead to as many as 18 three times in the third quarter and led 66-54.
Kellie Lampo and Carissa Caples combined to score nine straight points for Harding and cut the Henderson State lead to only seven at 72-65 with 4:01 left. An Amanda Kearney jumper with 44 seconds left pulled Harding to within 77-71, but the Lady Bisons got no closer.
Lampo led Harding with 19 points, and Cheyenne Brown had 17. Caples scored 14.
Pink Jones led Henderson State with 31 points, the most by a Harding opponent this season.
Harding's next action is next Saturday against Ouachita Baptist in Arkadelphia.

Harding still leads the series 29-28 and the teams play in Searcy on Feb. 16.
