Wonder Boys drop contest to Muleriders

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark.– Four Wonder Boys scored in double figures, led by Ramses Sandifer with 13 points, however it was not enough for the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys basketball team (2-7, 0-4 Great American Conference), as Tech was unable to hold off Southern Arkansas, falling 79-65 to the Muleriders (8-2, 3-1 GAC) on Wednesday evening in Tucker Coliseum.

The Wonder Boys face Texas A&M-Kingsville in a non-conference matchup on Saturday, Dec. 15 in Waco, Texas. A 2 p.m. tip-off is scheduled.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Arkansas Tech jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, highlighted by a four-point play from Will Adler at the 19:07 minute mark.
Tech later stretched its lead to nine points (18-9) after Eric Turner drilled a 3-pointer from the left side.
SAU retaliated with an 8-0 run to trim the deficit to one (18-17) with 11:29 remaining in the first half.
The Wonder Boys outscored SAU 17-8 over the next five minutes to grab a 35-29 advantage with 5:45 to play.
A 9-0 run by the Muleriders gave SAU its first lead of the game (38-35) with 3:59 remaining in the half. Tech went on to tie the score at 38-38 after Adler hit a 3-pointer in transition, however Southern Arkansas scored six of the next eight points to take a 44-40 advantage into the half.
Tech was able to cut the Mulerider lead to one (50-49) at the 16:49 minute mark after Alex Brown hit his first 3-pointer of the game.
The Wonder Boys never got any closer, as SAU gradually built a lead over the next several minutes, going up seven (60-53) at the 11:56 minute mark, then later pushing its lead to 14 (71-57) at the 4:45 minute mark.
Tech Was able to cut the lead to 12 at the 1:55 minute mark after Mason Cline connected for a 3-pointer, but that is as close as they would get as SAU held on for the win.
NOTABLES
Tech was outshot 46.9 to 33.9 percent for the contest as the Wonder Boys were held to 23.3 percent from the floor in the second half.
The Wonder Boys lost the battle inside as SAU out rebounded Tech 49-29 and held a 34-12 advantage in points in the paint. SAU grabbed 21 offensive rebounds.
SAU held a 17-9 advantage in points off turnovers and a 21-7 advantage in second-chance points.
Alder joined Sandifer in double figures with 12 points, R.J. Glasper added 12 and Brown chipped in ten. Brown also led tech with six rebounds.
Freddy Lee and Glasper had four assists apiece.
