City council to meet at rec center

With continuing HVAC work at City Hall, the Alva City Council will meet Monday at the Alva Recreation Center, Classroom 3. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.

The council will hold a special recognition by Alva Assistant Fire Chief and Fire Marshal Bryan Mill of seven volunteer firemen who have completed FFI Training.

There will be a presentation and review of the updates to the City Council Handbook and the 2018 Stability Test Scores.

The council will discuss and vote on Resolution 2018-012 calling for a municipal election to be held April 2. The election is for mayor, city clerk, city marshal, and council members from seat two in each of the four city wards. Filing period will be Feb. 4-6.

A funding agreement with the Department of Environmental Quality will be discussed before a vote. The funding involves the purchase of a wood chipper for the disposal of tree limbs.


The council will vote on the re-appointments of Halah Simon and Dr. Ken Brown to the Alva Hospital Authority for terms ending June 2021.

The council will be asked to approve the appointment of three Planning Commission members (Charles Murrow, Christie Kornele and Mary Hamilton) to the Land Use Task Force. The council will then vote on appointing council members Randy Stelling, Brian Wallis and Daniel Winters to the task force. Another vote will be on council at-large appointments of Kathy Earnest and Norville Ritter to the task force.

Time is allotted for remarks and inquiries by citizens limited to two minutes per speaker. Council members will also have a chance to make remarks.


The Alva Utility Authority meeting will follow. Trustees will vote on a change order for Fair Plumbing on the HVAC renovation project at City Hall. There will also be discussion and a vote on declaring surplus a Vermeer Chipper no longer needed by the city. That will be followed by action on the purchase of a 2017 Vermeer limb and debris chipper in an amount not to exceed $50,000.

The Alva Economic Development Authority agenda has only routine items of approving minutes and claims.
