Ladybugs win a thriller in overtime

The Alva Ladybugs improved to 7-2 after winning at home 50-40 in overtime versus the Lady Maroons of Perry High School Friday night.

The Ladybugs found themselves in a dog fight early on as Perry jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter.

Savannah Chenoweth led the way for the Lady Maroons with seven points in the first quarter followed by Kennedy Williams adding five points, and Khnly Duncan who had four points as Perry finished the quarter up 19-13. Ladybug Payton Jones started hot for Alva, as she led the team in the first quarter with six points.

Alva responded in the second quarter outscoring Perry 14-9; ending the half down by one point (28-27). Payton Jones, Acacia Charles and Chloe Durkee all scored four points in the quarter for Alva.

The second half of the game was played very close and physical. Alva found themselves slightly outscored in the third quarter seven to six. In the fourth quarter, the Ladybugs came back to outscore the Lady Maroons slightly, 7-5, ending the game tied 40-40.

The Ladybugs went on a 10-0 run in overtime to finish the game. The majority of the points came from Hallie Durkee (five points) and Chloe Durkee (two points).

Stats

The Ladybugs finished with three players in double figures. Hallie Durkee led with a game high of 15 points, followed by Chloe Durkee who scored 13 points (career high), and lastly Payton Jones who scored 13 points before fouling out in the fourth quarter. The team went 21-29 from the free throw line many came in the second half and overtime.

Perry had two players in double figures, Savannah Chenoweth scored a team high 11 points, and Kennedy Williams scored 10 points fouling out for the Maroons in overtime.
